DPC 76, Out-Of-Season Breeding for Goats

Quantity:

DPC-076

Published: 2010

Pages: 12

This guideline is designed to help dairy goat producers that are trying to milk goats throughout the year breed their goats out of season. The guideline discusses the husbandry techniques used to bring goats into rut in the spring so that the producer will have only a portion their herd in rut at any one time, mitigating the somatic cell count elevation that occurs during rut. A related Guideline that provides information on managing SCC in goat herds is number DPC 72, Farmers Guide to Somatic Cell Counts in Goats.

All DPC Guidelines go through an extensive peer review process. More information is available here.
